Jackie & Kirsty – Mom & daughter photo shoot in Newtown – Johannesburg photographer

5 Jun

I have known Kirsty and Jackie for many years and have always admired their incredibly close relationship, they love each other dearly and it shows, and they have so much fun together, it’s  a really special bond.

I photographed Kirsty’s 30th birthday party in  November, also held in the city, at the awesome #1 bar in Braamfontein, what a super awesome party with an extraordinary view of the city, I loved it so much I carried on shooting till 3am, Kirsty really appreciated that.

Kirsty loves the city so much, and any opportunity she gets to spend time there partying, or just exploring, she will take it, so  she really loved the idea of doing the mom and daughter shoot, that she had bought for her mom as a mother’s day gift, in Newtown, this for her was just the perfect location. Mom Jackie was a little nervous,  when we met on Sunday afternoon outside Museum Africa,  simply because of the stigma the city still carries to some, but she  soon got over her initial apprehension, and really enjoyed herself. Kirsty and Jackie had such fun with this shoot, and of course so did I.

I will say it again, I love the city, and seriously need to spend loads more time exploring.

Lady T’s Vintage Boudoir photo shoot – Johannesburg boudoir photographer

30 May

Lady T contacted me in February wanting to a boudoir shoot as a surprise gift for her boyfriend’s birthday present, I love that, what a fabulous gift to give your man and indeed yourself. The shoot was kept very hush, hush from Lady T’s boyfriend, as it was a surprise after all. We discussed various themes and finally decided to go with a vintage style boudoir photo shoot. I do so love me some vintage, so i was over the moon.

We found the perfect venue, an old Victorian style house in Parktown complete with antiques and a most fabulous energy. The gracious owners were very accommodating which made the shoot even more enjoyable because of the very chilled environment and the complete privacy they afforded us.  Lady T is gorgeous and such a beautiful person, she was nervous in the beginning, as was to be expected, but we quickly put her at ease and kept the vibe very light-hearted and fun. She was however very open to all our ideas and trusted us completely which really made a huge difference, and oh my word, did she have the most gorgeous lingerie and so much of it to choose from, so much of loveliness.

We had an absolute ball. I am so ecstatic with pics from a stunning vintage boudoir shoot with a gorgeous lady. What is even more important is that Lady T  absolutely loves her pics.   I loved every minute of Lady T’s shoot from concept to shooting, to post production.  I really  love, love, love what I do.

Here are the pics from Lady T’s vintage boudoir shoot, I’m sure that you will love them as much as I do.

Thanks to my photography partner, Sigrun Wagner for being amazing every step of the way, your contribution is, as always invaluable, and highly appreciated.  Thanks to Iliana Kirilova for doing Lady T’s lovely make-up.

Marc & Shimone tie the knot – Johannesburg wedding photographer

20 Apr

I have known Marc and Shimone for many years; so when they asked me to photograph their wedding  naturally I was honoured. I was  very excited but also quite nervous, you tend to put yourself under more pressure when photographing your friends.

The ceremony and reception was held at the beautiful Lethabo estate just outside of Lanseria, hidden in a valley and along the banks of a river it was the perfect venue for an intimate and romantic wedding.

Shimone looked stunning in a gorgeous handmade wedding gown designed by the talented Taryn, another mutual friend of ours, and when I first saw the dress hanging up all I could think was; Whoa, that is so Shimone!

The entire wedding was very relaxed and the theme of romance was evident with the forest backdrop.  From the bridesmaids dresses to the fact that the bridesmaids were all barefoot, you got the feel that during the picnic reception that this was not the traditional wedding.

Instead of the usual Bridal Groom speech, Marc sang a very special song to his gorgeous bride, with help from his brother, Dean, and a close friend, both on guitar.  It was so special to see Shimone’s smile when Marc started singing, and the expressions on her face  all through the track  was, well,  just beautiful.

While all this love was going on, I was feverishly snapping away to capture the moments for this lovely couple.  Shimone loves being photographed, and is a natural in front of the camera, so it was very easy capturing her happiness and radiance on the day – she needed no direction or reassuring, she was just relaxed and happy in her new found matrimonial bliss, and Marc, well he was awesome too. I wish my friends, Marc and Shimone  joy, love, laughter and friendship always, may you guys be eternally blessed.

Precious new beginnings – collection of newborn photography – Johannesburg newborn photographer

16 Apr

I finally got around to sorting out some kind of filing system, (I really dont like the ‘admin’ stuff ), for all my shoots, and came across these newborn photos from various newborn photo shoots I had done  in the past year.  I thought I would post and share a few of my favourite  pics, so here they are, from a selection of some of most favourite newborn sessions, this is honestly one of  my favourite genres, and I so do love newborn photography. I especially love the more candid approach to newborn photoraphy, Im a sucker for anything  natural, natural light, natural “poses” and natural interaction between mommy, daddy and baby.

Pillow talk – Boudoir Photography by Johannesburg photographer

5 Apr

Every woman has this desire to look glamorous and sexy, all while maintaining her class and sophistication, and lets face it – it’s an awesome confidence booster.

When you immortalize that radiant seduction in photos – you have a constant reminder of the powerhouse beauty that you are and what better setting than the one place in your house where you aren’t just the mom or just the wife?

Boudoir: is a lady’s private bedroom, sitting room or dressing room. Emphasis on the lady.

Commonly boudoir or pin up shoots have been categorized as risqué or tastelessly erotic – bordering on pornography perhaps – but this is not the case at all.  It is timeless and captures the intimate beauty of a woman, man or couple in a setting they themselves are comfortable with.

Growing in popularity, the idea of contemporary boudoir photography is to take variations of candid and posed photographs of a glamorous looking and confident feeling person partly clothed or in lingerie.

Nudity is more often implied than explicit – leaving much to the imagination of your significant other and maintaining the grace; and as mentioned sophistication of being a lady.

Commercially the boudoir or pin up shoot is marketed for brides to surprise their future husbands by gifting the images on or before their wedding day. A taste of things to come if you will.

Other motivations or inspiration for boudoir photography shoots include anniversaries, birthdays, Valentine’s Day, weight loss regimes, maternity, or just to celebrate the beautiful woman in you.

Think Bettie Page, Mae West, Clara Bow and Jean Harlow – all photographed in boudoir styled shoots capturing their elegance and sensuality all in one photo.

Sweet Judy Garland and her Ruby Red slippers were immortalized in the form of a pin up shoot in the 1940’s and still she is a beloved silver screen icon.  Twiggy had her very own pin up shoot, waif frame and all. Cindy Crawford, Raquel Welch, Brigitte Bardot, the list is endless – all woman who have had their sensual beauty captured and all of whom have had their moment in the sun.

What is your excuse for not having your moment in the light?

A Joy Filled Expectation – The Maternity Collection – Johannesburg maternity photographer

27 Mar

I finally got around to sorting out some kind of filing system, Im terrible with ‘admin’ stuff, for all my shoots, and came across these matenrnity photos from various maternity photo shoots I had done recently.  I thought I would post a few of my favourite  pics, so here they are, from a selection of studio to outdoor 70’s kinda feel, to levitation and a bit of vintage.

27 Mar

I asked my client, Cashe, to please write me a little something about her vintage mom and son, photo shoot experience. We did the shoot at Hermanstad train station in Pretoria and it was just the kind of shoot i have been wanting to do for so long now, neelesss to say I was a very happy Bron, its so aweosme to do a styled, creative shoot, gets the juices flowing, now bring on more of these shoots  universe!!!!

The suitcase with the money in it…

Just like every proud and doting mommy, I wanted to immortalize the little moments with my 5 year old before life happened and they slipped by.  It was fortunate that I had been given a gift of a family photo shoot and what better setting than at a steam train station in Pretoria? I wanted a vintage but not that vintage shoot and we pulled it off spectacularly!  When we arrived I was very nervous about the fact that I’d be in these photos as well but had reassurance from my Riley that I looked very pretty and Bron made it easy for me to feel comfortable as well…  Although that did take time.  The first few photos must have been a flop, but after a quick wardrobe adjustment I started feeling so much better and really got into the shoot.

Trying different poses, different settings, different backdrops, I didn’t want the shoot to end I was having so much fun and seeing my little guy in his 1920’s gangster regalia was precious.  After the initial nerves and uncertainty I went from timid and awkward to confident and relaxed and that shows in our photos!

While we were capturing the last shots of the day with a massive storm brewing in the distance and wind going like crazy, I was thrilled  that mother nature had done her bit to create the mood for us, wind machine and all.

It was an epic day of laughter, excitement and fun and  I’ve already started planning our next stylized shoot that Bron will be capturing as only she can, now just to find another outstanding venue like the last!

Urban Couple Shoot, Exploring Newtown – Johannesburg photographer

19 Mar Johannesburg couple photographer

Sunday afternoons are probably my favourite time to do shoots, especially in summer, from about 5pm, the light is gorgeous and, well, its a great way to end the weekend. Kerry and Marcel met me at the Market Theatre in Newtown for their couples shoot, we wanted to do something different to the  very typical couples shoot, you know the one, in a garden with grass and trees, not really their style.  Kerry and Marcel wanted to do FUN, so we headed out to explore Newtown and found some really awesome spots, although this area is very used by other photographers, its still really awesome, just love the urban feel and the graffitti is something else, I hope they never remove it, its part of what makes Newtown, well Newtown.

This is why I do photography, this shoot got me really excited and pumped up. Kerry and Marcel were amazing, they just follwed my lead and trusted me completely and were willing to do pretty much anything I asked. This wasnt just a fun shoot, it was freakin amazing, and I loved every single minute,  I have this need to explore the city more, it has so much to offer, so much of colour and character, love it.
